Ingredients of Roghan Suranjan
- Suranjan Colchicum autumnale 100 gram
- Ajmod Apium graveolens seeds 100 grams
- Chirayta Swertia chirata 50 grams
- Til Taila Sesamum indicum oil 1350 ml
Preparation of Roghan Suranjan
- Ajmod, Chirayta, and Suranjan are soaked overnight in two and a half liter water.
- Next day, the decoction is prepared by boiling till water reduces to half.
- This is filtered and added to sesame oil.
- The oil is cooked till all the moisture is removed.
Key Ingredients
Suranjan Talkh (Bitter variety) is preferred for external use in joint problems. An alkaloid, Colchicine is present in the corm of bitter variety of Colchicum luteum Colchicum autumnale. This alkaloid is an amorphous, yellowish-white and darkens on exposure to light and gives a yellow coloration with strong mineral acids. Colchicine is effective in the treatment of gout and periodic diseases though the exact mechanism of action by which it works is not known. This phytochemical has anti-gout and anti-inflammatory activities. It can be used as an option to relieve gout attacks for people who cannot take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for some reason. Colchicine is considered the best remedies for acute gout pain.
