Vyaghri Haritaki Avaleha is poly-herbal Ayurvedic medicine. It is a blackish brown, semi-solid sticky paste with bitter, astringent taste and spicy pleasant odor. The medicinal herbs used in its preparation are Kantakari, Haritaki, Trikatu and Chaturjat churna.
This medicine is indicated in respiratory ailments. It especially useful in disease that occur due to vitiation of Kapha and Vata.
The main ingredient of this medicine is Vyaghri and Haritaki. Vyaghri is an Ayurvedic name of medicinal herb Kantakari. Kantakari is used in the treatment of respiratory ailments from time immemorial. This herb is used to loosen the cough and treat diseases of throat. Trikatu (Kali Mirch, Pippali and Sonth) has antibacterial action and beneficial in the treatment of fever, asthma, cold, cough and other general health disorders. Chaturjata is an Ayurvedic formulation containing dalchini, elaichi, tejpatra and kesara. It is used for improving appetite, promoting digestion, and treating cough.

Method of preparation
Take raw material of Pharmacopoeial quality. Wash, dry and grind ingredient number 1 (Kvatha Dravya) of the formulation composition and pass through sieve number 44 to obtain a coarse powder.
Clean, dry and powder the ingredients number 5 to 11(Prakshepa Dravya) of the formulation composition and pass through sieve number 85 to obtain a fine powder.
Clean, dry the ingredient number 3 of the formulation composition and make in to small pieces by removing seeds. Tie the pieces of Haritaki in a muslin cloth to prepare a pottali. Add the specified amount of water to the Kvatha Dravya and suspend the pottali containing pieces of Haritaki in to the vessel. Heat, reduce the volume to one fourth and filter through a muslin cloth to obtain Kvatha.
Collect the soft pieces of Haritaki from the pottali (bundle) and prepare fine paste. Add jaggery to the Kvatha, boil to dissolve and later filter through a muslin cloth. Add fine paste of Haritaki, subject to gentle boiling and stir continuously during the process. Continue heating till the preparation reaches the consistency of leha confirmed by the formation of soft ball that does not disperse in water. Stop heating.
Cool to room temp and add powdered Prakshepa Dravya and honey. Mix thoroughly to prepare a homogeneous mass.
Pack it in a tightly closed container to protect from light and moisture.

The Dosage of Vyaghri Haritaki Avaleha
5 to 15 g twice a day before food for 12 weeks. Take this medicine with water or milk.
