In Ayurveda, Panchagavya is the combination of five important products obtained from cow’s urine, dung, milk, cow’s ghee and curd. The ghee prepared from Panchagavya is known as Panchagavya Ghrita.

Ingredients of Panchagavya Ghrita
- Panchagavya Ghrita is a semi-solid preparation made with the ingredients in the Formulation composition given below with Ghrita as the basic ingredient.
- Gomaya svarasa (watery substance of cow’s dung) 3.072 l
- Kshir milk (Go-dugdha) 3.072 l
- Dadhi curd (Go-dadhi) 3.072 kg
- Mootra cow’s urine (Go-mutra) 3.072 l
- Ghee Go-ghrita 768 g
- Storage: Store in a cool place in a tightly closed container, protected from light and moisture.
- Go-Dugdha contains carbohydrate, calcium chloride, casein, phosphorus, sodium citrate, iron, vitamins A, carotene and riboflavin.
- Go-mutra has sulfur, ammonia, copper, iron, urea, uric acid, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, vitamins A-E, lactose, enzymes and creatine. It is rich in volatile free acids which are very potent antioxidant agents.
- Go-Ghrita contains phospholipids, diglycerides, triglycerides and beta carotene. It Sapta dhatu vardhak, Oja vardhak, Buddhivardhaka (augmenting intelligence), Smritivardhaka (enhancing memory), Deepana (improves appetite) and is useful in the treatment of Unmada, Apasmara, Murccha and Mada. It is useful in the diseases affecting the nervous system, anxiety, depression, dementia, insanity, epilepsy and other disorders of consciousness.

The Dosage of Panchagavya Ghrita
The recommended dosage of Panchagavya Ghrita is 5g to 12g after the meal, twice a day. It should be taken with hot milk or hot water. Or take as directed by a physician.
Please note, the doses of Ayurvedic medicines are not fixed. The exact dose depends on the age, strength, digestive power of the patient, the nature of the illness, the state of the viscera and humours, and the properties of individual drugs.
In Research
A study was done to investigate the hepatoprotective activity of Panchagavya Ghrita against CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity. This study concluded, Treatment with Panchagavya Ghrita significantly reduced the CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity. A comparative histological study of the liver from different groups further confirmed the hepatoprotective activity of Panchagavya Ghrita.
A study was carried out to assess Nootropic activity of Panchagavya Ghrita in animal models. The study concluded Nootropic activity of Panchagavya Ghrita. The result indicates it might be helpful to treat cognitive disabilities such as amnesia, dementia, etc.and can be used as an adjuvant drug.
A study done on rats, shows Panchagavya Ghrita has anticonvulsant activity. Anticonvulsants are drugs that prevent or reduce the severity and frequency of seizures in various types of epilepsy. The different types of anticonvulsants may act on different receptors in the brain and have different modes of action.
