Jahar Mohra (also known as Zahar mohra/ Jaharmohra/Nagapashana) Pishti and Bhasma is Unani-Ayurvedic medicine of mineral origin. It is processed Jahar Mohra stone or serpentine, which is Hydrous magnesium silicate.

Jahar Mohra Pishti and Bhasma give strength to heart, brain and intestine. Jahar Mohra is indicated in the fever, weakness of heart, palpitation, high blood pressure, rickets, indigestion, vomiting, diarrhea and burning sensation in the body. It is also used as prophylactic during infectious diseases.

Jahar Mohra Pishti and Bhasma is processed from same material that is Jaharmohra stone but using different process. In preparation of Pishti, fire is not used but Bhasma is calcinated stone.  Pishti and Bhasma, both are used for same purpose but Pishti is considered more mild and beneficial.

Jahar Mohra Pishti and Bhasma Composition

Ingredients present in Jahar Mohra Pishti are given below:

  2. Gulaba jala (Shatapatriki) / Chandanadi Ark Q.S. for mardana

Ingredients present in Jahar Mohra Bhasma is given below:

  1. Jaharamohara Shuddha R.Q.
  2. Arjunatvak kvatha Q.S. for mardana
  3. Vata jatankura (praroha) kvatha Q.S. for mardana

Shodhana: Jaharamohara Stone is used in formulations only after subjecting it to Shodhana.

Shodhana is done by triturating Jaharamohara with Cow’s milk or Amalaki Juice. Jaharamohara is heated till it becomes red hot and dipped in Go-dugdha or Indian gooseberry juice for 21 times.

Jahar Mohra Stone

Jaharamohara is Serpentine, a hydrous silicate of Magnesium [Mg6(Si4O10) X(OH)8].

Jaharamohara is mainly found in metamorphic terrains of Rajasthan, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. In Rajasthan, it occurs abundantly in Udaipur and Dungurpur districts.

Jaharamohara results from the alteration, either during metamorphism or by late-stage hydrothermal action at temperatures below 4000, of rocks rich in magnesium, containing olivine, pyroxene or amphibole. Magnetite usually accompanies this alteration. Some serpentine occurs as large rock masses generally referred to as serpentinites. Nickel in minor amount is generally present in Jaharamohara. A little amount of Calcium, Iron and Aluminium may also be present.

Jahar Mohra Pishti

Jahar Mohra Pishti, is prepared by triturating, Jahar Mohra stone with the Chandanadi Ark or Gulab Jal. It is then exposed to sun or moonlight. Jahar Mohra Pishti is an Anagnitapta Bhasma (bhasma prepared without the medium of fire).

Jahar Mohra Bhasma

Jahar Mohra Bhasma is obtained by calcination of purified Jahar Mohra stone. For the preparation of Jahar Mohra Bhasma, Varahaputa should be given.

Anupan (fluid vehicle) for Jahar Mohra Bhasma is Manjishtha Kvatha.

Jahar Mohra Pishti is more potent than Jaharmohara Khatai Bhasma.

The recommended dosage of medicine is 65 to 250 mg thrice a day with honey or water, for adult. Children can be given 35 to 125 mg with honey or water twice a day.

Jahar Mohra Pishti can be taken thrice a day with water, Gulab Arka, Chandanadi Arka.

Or take as directed by a doctor.
