Chaturbhuj Ras is a herbo-mineral formulation or Ras aushadhi of Ayurveda. The main ingredient of Rasa aushadi is Shuddha Parada Bhasma (calx) along with the other components. Parad or mercury is used only after proper purification which is done by Shodhana, Mardana (grinding), Swedana (vapourising), Prakshalana (performing frequent ablutions), Galana (straining fluids), etc. The processings detoxifies mercury and brings about the physical and chemical changes in the drug, thus enhance their therapeutic efficiency.

Chaturbhuj Ras is prepared from Ras Sindoor, Swarn bhasma, Shuddha Mansila, Haritaal, etc. which are processed in aloe vera juice. The main ingredient is Ras Sindoor, which is processed by treating mercury in metallic form with sulfur and aerial roots of Ficus benghalensis. It is then heated and its sulphide is obtained.

The formulation of this medicine contain gold, (Swarn Bhasma). So it is always Chaturbhuj Ras (with gold).

Key Ingredients of Chaturbhuj Ras

This medicine is prepared from Ras Sindur (24 g), 12g each Swarn Bhasma, Shuddha Mansila, Haritaal and Kasturi. The process is to take all ingredient, ground (Mardan) them to get fine blend and process in Aloe vera juice. Then a bolus is made which is enwrapped in castor leaves and put in a Dhanyaraashi/vessel or sack containing rice, wheat, etc. for 3 days. The castor leaves are removed and formulation thus obtained is Chaturburj Ras. Small tablets each measuring 1 Ratti is rolled from the bolus.

Uses of Chaturbhuj Ras

Chaturbhuj Ras is useful Ras Aushadi for Vata disorders. It is a Rasayana that cures diseases and improves health.

This medicine is indicated Neurologic Diseases or Nervous system diseases such as Apasmara or epilepsy, Murcha or fainting, Unmada or hysteria, Nervousness and Other Nervous Disorders. In nervous diseases, it works effectively and helps in better sleep.

This medicine is given for treating weakness of heart, fainting, Bronchitis, Phthisis, Epilepsy, Sciatica, Lumbago, Tuberculosis, and many other diseases.

The Dosage of Chaturbhuj Ras

The recommended dosage of Chaturbhuj Ras is 1 tablet, twice a day in morning and evening with honey Or take as directed by a physician.

Caution/Warning

  1. This is a prescription drug.
  2. This medicine is hot in potency due to the presence of Ras sindur, Mansila, Haritaal, etc. It must be taken cautiously in diseases due to aggravated Pitta and person with Pitta prakriti.
  3. This medicine must not be used in increased heart rate an-d increased blood flow to brain.
