Ayurvedic Medicines for Cholera

Cholera or haija is an acute diarrheal disease that can be life threatening, if left untreated. It is a bacterial disease caused by bacterium Vibrio cholerae. It spreads through contaminated food and water. The various symptoms of this disease are diarrhea, vomiting, and severe abdominal pain. Initially, person suffers from vomiting and loose motion, followed by severe cramping restlessness, severe thirst and fever. This condition is known as Visuchika in Ayurveda.

It is very important to keep hydrated. A person can easily suffers from dehydration due to diarrhea and vomiting. So the most important thing is to drink plenty of water in small amounts at regular interval. For this purpose, ORS, coconut water, Ajwain ark, and previously boiled and cooled water should be taken.

Here is given few Ayurvedic medicines for treating haija/cholera. Any one of the following medicines can be taken for treating cholera.

  • Sanjivani vati
    Dosage: 1 tablet to be given with pudina ark/ juice of mint leaves or 15 ml of onion juice. When cholera is aggravated then this medicine can be given at interval of every 1 to 3 hours. Once cholera is in control, it should be given at interval of 3 or 6 hours. 
  • Rasadi Vati
    Dosage: 1-2 tablets twice a day water/ gulab ark/ Chandanaadi ark or as directed by a physician.
  • Visuchika vati
    Dosage: 1-2 tablets per day.
  • Visuchi vidhvansan rasa
    Dosage: 1 tablet, in morning and evening with honey.
  • Mrigamadasava
    Dosage: 10-15 drops with 15 ml water or with sugar/batasha.
  • Mritsanjivani sura
    Dosage: 5-10 drops and lasunadi vati 1-2 tablets per day.
