Ayurveda: Chandanasava for Urinary Diseases

Chandanasavam is ayurvedic formulation used for urinary diseases. For the preparation of asavas herbs are allowed to ferment in solution of jaggery for specified time. The process of the fermentation allows extraction of active principle from herbs.

Ingredients of Chandanasava:

Santalum album L. and other 24 herb ingredients

Santalam album (Sandal wood), Pterocarpus santalinus L., Pavonia odorata, Cyperus rotundus, Nymphaca stellosta, Gmelina arborea, Aglaia roxburghiana, Prunus cerasoides, Symplocos racemosa, Rubia cordifolia, Stephania hernandifolia, Swertia chirata, Ficus bengalensis, Ficus relegiosa, Magnifera indica, Bauhinia variegata L., Trichosanthes dioica Roxb, Vanda roxburghii, Glycerrhiza glabra L., Oldenlandia corymbosa, Curcuma zedoaria, Salmalia malabarica, Woodfordia fruticosa, Vitis vinifera

Therapeutic Use of Chandanasava:

  1. Diuretic
  2. Urinary calculi
  3. Dysuria (painful urination)
  4. Spermatorrhoea (involuntary loss of semen)
  5. Haematuria (presence of red blood cells in the urine)

The Dose of Chandanasava:

1 to 2 tablespoonful (15 to 30ml) with an equal quantity of water after meals or as directed by the physician.
