Amavatari Ras is a Ras Aushadhi of Ayurveda. Mercury is known as Rasa in Ayurveda and medicine that is prepared using purified mercury, purified Sulphur along with other ingredients is named as Ras aushadhi (Mercurial Preparations). Para, Parad, Rasa or mercury is a heavy metal that remains liquid at room temperature. It is used in Ayurveda only after proper detoxification as per classical Ayurvedic texts. Parad is ingredient of numerous medicines due to its powerful medicinal properties. It balances Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Ras aushadhi (Parad containing medicine) are fast acting. They nourishes the whole body and has Tonic, aphrodisiac, rejuvenative, anti-aging, wound-healer, and antimicrobial effect. The combination of mercury with other medicinal ingredients enhances the therapeutic efficacy of the medicine due to Yogvahi property of parad.
Amavatari Rasa is used in the treatment of diseases which are of Vata origin. Amavatari Ras is helpful in decreasing pain, swelling and stiffness in joints. It reduces the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Rheumatoid Arthritis is known as Amavata in Ayurveda. This disease directly affects the quality of life of affected person. The word Amavata is made up of a combination of two words, Ama and Vata. Ama is the undigested food produced in the body due to Mandagni (sluggish digestive fire). When all metabolic fires (Agni) become sluggish Ama is produced. It is heavy (guru), unctuous (Snigdha), immobile (Sthira), bulky (Sthula), and slimy (Pichhila).
Ama is toxic and with the help of Vata it circulates in the whole body and gets located in the Sandhis (joints), causing pain, stiffness and swelling over the joints. In Amavata, Agni (metabolic fire) plays an important role.
Ingredients of Amavatari Ras
Parada (1 part), Gandhaka (2 part), Triphala (3 part), Chitrak (4 part), Guggulu (5 part), Eranda tail/Castor oil (Bhavana dravya).
Process of the drug making
Suddha Parada 1 part added to 2 parts of suddha Gandhaka to form Kajjali. Guggulu 5 parts was pounded well by adding kajjali and 3 parts of Triphala, 4 parts of Chitraka. During the process Eranda taila of required amount was added and pounding was continued until a softhomogeneous mass formed which is rolled to form pills. The prepared pills are Amavatari Ras.
Uses of Amavatari Ras
Amavatari Ras is indicated in the treatment of diseases that occur due to vitiation of vata dosha. Amavatari Ras is useful in Amavata and all types of Vata Roga. Its intake gives relief in stiffness, swelling and pain.

The Dosage of Amavatari Ras
1-2 tablets twice a day with hot water/Dashmula Kwath/Rasnadi kwath/Castor oil.
While taking this medicine drink only hot water and do not eat food items that increases vata/vayu/wind in the body.
