Terminalia Arjuna is known by many common names such as Arjuna, Kakubha, Kahu, etc. In Ayurveda, Arjuna Tree bark is used from time immemorial as cardio tonic and as a medicine to treat heart diseases. This tree is mentioned in Rig Veda. Ayurveda says, one who takes Arjuna bark with milk/ghee/gur will be relieved from heart diseases, bleeding disorders and chronic fever. It is an anti-oxidant that strengthens heart and gives long life. The tree bark when taken orally treats coronary artery disease, reduces high blood pressure, lowers cholesterol, prevent angina or cardiac pain and strengthens heart.
Arjuna Ksheer pak Preparation
In Ayurveda, Arjuna Kshirpaka is prepared by boiling dried bark with water and milk. In this preparation, milk is used as medium to extract medicinal component. This combination enhances therapeutic and nutritive value. It has improved taste and is more palatable.
Arjuna Kshir-pak is prepared by soaking 1-2 teaspoon of Arjuna bark powder in water (150 ml) at night. Next morning, take the soaked bark along with water. In this add milk (150 ml) and cook till the volume reduces to half (150 ml). Remove from stove, filter using muslin cloth and drink.
