Looz syrup is prepared from Lactulose which is a synthetic, man-made, disaccharide sugar prepared from fructose and galactose. This sugar is not absorbed by humans due to lack of enzymes. But it can be digested by colon bacteria to form lactic acid and acetic acids.
This metabolism of lactulose causes acidification (lower pH) and increase of osmotic pressure inside colon. This further draws water from other part of the body to colon promoting peristalsis, softening of stool and fermentative diarrhea. Thus causing the evacuation of bowel.
