Do You Know Uses of Calamine?

Calamine is topical lotion for the skin. prepared by mixing zinc oxide or zinc carbonate with 0.5 % iron oxide. Calamine has mild astringent (shrink or constrict body tissues) and antipruritic (inhibits itching) activities. Its application on skin gives cooling and soothing effect. It is useful in getting relief from minor itching, irritation due to allergy, insect bite, eczema, etc. Zinc oxide, which is the active ingredient of this mixture has antiseptic properties which helps to prevent infections that can be caused by scratching.

Uses of Calamine

  • Itching, eczema, chickenpox
  • Sunburn
  • Itching due to insect bite, Itching due to contact with poisonous plant
  • Skin irritations, Skin allergy/urticaria
  • Soothing effect on skin
  • Acne, Frostbite

How to use Calamine?

Shake well the bottle. Apply gently on skin by dabbing cotton ball and spreading on the affected skin area. Allow it to dry. It should be applied 3-4 times a day.

Safe to use on kids and during pregnancy
Warning: Stop using it, if allergic reaction appear in the form of rashes, itching, swelling and irritation.
