Ayurvedic Medicine Karpurasava is very good in treatment of stomach problems like Diarrhoea, Ascites and others.

Karpurasava is poly-herbal Ayurvedic medicine. It is referenced from Bhaishajyaratnavali, and is indicated in Agnimandya Rogadhikar. Asava is an Ayurvedic medicines that contain self-generated alcohols. Asava is prepared from cold infusions or juice of medicinal herbs without using heat.

The fermentation is done by burying sealed pots in the ground or husk for a period of one month followed by filtration. The self-generated alcohol during fermentation extracts the active principles from the ingredients and also acts as a preservative. Karpurasava is prepared by adding Prasanna (distilled alcohol from fermented solution) to pulverised mixture of medicinal herbs, kept for some time and then filtered.

Prasanna is prepared from following

  1. Sashitka (Navarai Rice) 1 part
  2. Yavadhanya 1 part
  3. Haritaki 1 part
  4. Guda 1 part
  5. Kadali (Plantain) 10 Numbers

Uses of Karpurasava

  1. Atisara (Diarrhoea)
  2. Visuchika (Gastro-enteritis with piercing pain)
  3. Udararoga (Ascites)
  4. Kapha-vikara (Disorders due to vitiation of Kapha dosha)

The Dosage of Karpurasava

5 to 10 drops twice a day or as directed by a physician.
