Know about health effects of lemon leaves

Lemon leaves can be used to treat nerve disorders like insomnia, nervousness and palpitation due to it's sedative and antispasmodic properties. Learn some quick and useful remedies of lemon leaves.

Lemon is grown and used all over world as citrus fruit, mainly used in culinary. In Ayurvedic medicine system this is used as medicine also. In many countries it’ leaves are also used in cooking and some time it’s leaves juice used a flavouring agent and used in fresh juice.

Here are some medicinal uses of the lemon leaf

Lemon leaf has sedative and antispasmodic properties. The lemon leaves can be used to treat nerve disorders like insomnia, nervousness and palpitation. To treat these disorders, soak five to seven leaves of lemon in a teacup of hot water and allow it to infuse for 15 minutes and take this infusion two time daily for at least one month because these disorders can not be treated in over night.

Lemon leaf will serve as a good and better alternative to Valium and other synthetic sedatives, which by the way, have side effects.To get maximum result from lemon leaf, take the preparation daily for at least one month.Do not expect that your insomnia or nervousness would disappear overnight.

For migraine headache and asthma, soak two handfuls [a handful is the amount of dried or fresh lemon leaves you can hold within your fist] of fresh lemon leaves in one bottle (beer bottle) of hot water. Allow it infuse for 10 minutes.Drink two cups every night for two weeks. This applies more particular to asthma patients.

The Lemon leaf is also used for de-worming. For this prepare as for migraine and asthma above. The dosage is three cups every night for one week.

  2. I’ve been growing a lemon tree from seed for two years. It has only grown to about a foot tall. I noticed the leaves have the smell of lemon and decided to search for medicinal uses when I found this article. Great to know that if it doesn’t produce any fruit the leaves can be of use.

  4. Wow..its really useful as a sedative. I used it in replacement of orange skin in a chicken soup cooked with chinese soya sauce, cinnamon, star anise. Started feeling sleepy after dinner & didnt realise why. I googled & found this website. Thanks for the info.
