Joanesia Asoca, Saraca Indica, Asoka, Kanekeli, Asok, Asthopalva Are few common names of The Asoka Tree. Ashok tree bark has an affinity for female reproductive organs. It is used in Ayurveda since time immemorial in the treatment of female disorders. The stem bark of the tree is strongly astringent and a uterine sedative, uterine tonic, and styptic. It has a stimulating effect on endometrial and ovarian tissue.
It is used to treat menorrhagia, leucorrhoea, internal bleeding, hemorrhoids, and hemorrhagic dysentery. The bark is also useful in dyspepsia, fever, and burning sensation. It is also useful in delayed bone consolidation and calcium deficiency.
It is useful as an anti-menorrhagia, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and cardioprotective, anti-ulcer, antifungal, antioxidant, antidiabetic, and hypolipidemic.
In ancient medicine of it has a great repute for menstrual and uterine disorders. It is an important remedy for amenorrhea and scanty menses which is related to intolerable pain and burning sensation during urination. It is a tonic related to the uterus and so-called a uterine tonic. which gives strength to the uterus which has been weakened by chronic ailments.

It is a tree which 6-9m high. It is grown all over India. It occurs up to an altitude of 600 meters. It is also cultivated in many gardens because of its decorative orange flowers. Its leaves are abruptly pinnate, with few pairs of leaflets.
Flowers are yellowish to deep red. Petals absent.
It has been traditionally used in Indian system medicine for the treatment of uterine, genital ailments, and other reproductive disorders in women, fever, pain, and inflammation. All parts of the tree used in medicine. The bark is dark brown or grey or almost black with a warty surface. The stem bark is rough and uneven due to the presence of rounded or projecting lenticels.

It is distributed in the evergreen forests of India up to an elevation of about 750 meters. It is found throughout India. Especially in Himalaya, Kerala, Bengal, and the whole south region. In Himalaya, it is found at Khasi, Garo, and Lussi hills, and in the Kerala region, it is found in Patagiri, Kaikatty & Pothundi of Palakkad district, Thrisur, Kollam, and Kannur districts.
The Bark
Bark has a stimulating effect on the endometrial and ovarian tissues. It is also used in cases of uterine bleeding, irregular menstrual cycles, and infertility. It has used in dysentery treatment. It is used as a uterine sedative and hot water extracts administered to human adult female stimulates the uterus similar to ergot, but it does not produce a tonic contraction.

Headache
She has a very congestive headache, which is better by the free menstrual flow. The patient has a periodical headache which is better by bathing. The patient has heaviness of the head with vertigo.
Eyes
There is redness along with burning and itching. It is a very good remedy for styles( red swelling over eyelids) which is present on the upper eyelids. The patient’s eyes are easily tired on least exertion. The patient is also difficulty in seeing far objects clearly.
Ears
There is a pain in the ears along with the hardness of hearing after a severe cold.
Nose
There is profuse watering from the nose along with sneezing and soreness of the nostrils. There is obstruction of the nose. It is a very good remedy for loss of smell and bleeding from the nose.
Face
The patient has a pale face which alternately hot and red along with pimples on the face.
Mouth
There is dryness along with excessive thirst. The patient drinks large quantities of water at a time. The patient has a thickly white or brown coated tongue along with bleeding gums and toothache.
Throat
Redness of the throat with a sore feeling. The patient takes cold easily.
Stomach
There is excessive nausea, along with pain in the stomach which is colicky in nature, with no desire for food, and he eats little. The patient has a desire for sweet, and sour acid things, and the patient does not like to drink mild. He drinks large quantities of water. There is a want of appetite, but he dislikes the food. Stool
The patient has hard distended foul-smelling flatus worse in the evening. There is soreness in the lower abdomen. Urinary complaints
The patient has frequent bloody scanty and involuntary urination at night, within pain in the loin(area near thighs). It is a very good remedy for complaints of urination at night.

It is a very good remedy for all female complaints. She feels a headache due to suppression of menses with delayed or irregular menses. Menstrual discharge is scanty, pale, watery, foul-smelling, blackish. It is a very good remedy for amenorrhoea at puberty with headache, and loss of appetite. The patient feels better by starting the flow. Menses at times are profuse, long-lasting which makes the female weak and anemic. It is a very useful remedy for problems like sterility and menopause. It is a very good remedy for white discharge in infants.
Respiratory
The patient experiences hurried respiration with difficulty in breathing when walking and worse in the afternoon.
Back
The patient experiences pain in the back and sacrum radiating towards the abdomen at night.
