In Ayurveda, Pishti refers to the powder of the drug prepared by triturating the drug with the specified liquids, and exposing to sun or moonlight. These are termed as Anagnitapta Bhasma (bhasma prepared without the medium of fire).

What is Prawal?
Praval (Coral) is the calcareous skeleton of the minute marine organism called Anthezoa polypus, and belongs to phylum coelenterate. The skeleton is in the form of minute irregular deposits, called spicules which contain mainly calcium carbonate. It is used in the form of Bhasma, and Pishti in order to cure various ailments since ancient times in Ayurvedic system of medicine.

The dosage of Prawal Pishti
The recommended dosage of Prawal Pishti is 125 mg to 250 mg. It is generally taken twice a day with honey, butter or Ghee.
For heat-related disorders, Prawal Pishti is taken with Gulkand. Prawal Pishti, and Gulkand have cooling properties, and help to alleviate all heat-related problems like tiredness, lethargy, itching, aches, and pains.

Method of preparation
After purification (Shodhana), the drug is put in a khalva, and triturated generally with rose water, unless otherwise mentioned. It is triturated with the liquid for a day, and dried in the sun for another day. This process is generally continued for seven days or more till fine Pishti in powder form is obtained.
Pishti Characteristics, and preservation
It is as fine as Bhasma, and has the characteristics of Bhasma. Pishti preserves their potency indefinitely, and stored in glass-stoppered bottles.
