Phyllanthus (Phyllanthus amarus/niruri)
Bhumi Amla or Tamalki reduces Pitta and gives relief in the burning sensation. The leaves are rich in potassium (0.83 %), and hence possess diuretic action. It has been shown to be effective as an adjunct, along with other drugs, in the treatment of jaundice due to infective hepatitis. The decoction is reported to produce hypoglycemic action in normal as well as alloxan-diabetic rabbits.

Bhumi Amla is antiviral, hepatoprotective, cholagogue, diuretic, lithagogue, alterative, immunoregulator, antitussive and haemostatic. It helps in viral hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, clearing and preventing gallstones. It acts as a cholagogue. It improves the liver function and alleviation of hepatitis symptoms. Punarnava
Punarnava is one of the best herb used for diseases of the liver and kidney. It helps to reduce swelling by losing extra fluid from the body. It helps in enlargement of the liver, cirrhosis of the liver, jaundice, dropsy, oedema and similar inflammatory conditions.
Punarnava is diuretic and decreases urinary albumin, urinary protein excretion and specific gravity. It is also a urinary antiseptic. The plant is recommended for the treatment of urolithiasis. Punarnava exhibits significant anti-inflammatory, laxative and diuretic action along with stomachic, expectorant, rejuvenative, diaphoretic and emetic properties. Bhringraj
Eclipta alba, Eclipta prostrata, or Trailing eclipta, is commonly known as Bhringraj. The aerial parts of the plant contain terthienyl derivatives, including a-formylterthienyl and a number of esterified 5-hydroxyterthienyl derivatives, flavonoids apigenin and luteolin, and the isoflavone orobol, wedelolactone and desmethylwedelolactone.

In Ayurveda, Bhringraj is used both internally and externally. It is mainly known for its use in hair care and the making of hair oil. Guduchi / Giloy / Tinospora cordifolia, is recommended for diabetes, burning sensation, fever, edema, etc. It has been scientifically validated in various animal models for hypoglycemic, immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and other pharmacological activities. The aqueous and alcoholic extract of the plant has been shown to improve glucose tolerance. It has hypoglycemic, anti-oxidant and analgesic activity and reduces the burning sensation. It helps to clean the liver. It is broad spectrum pitta-reducing herb that destroys toxins and strengthens immunity.
It is a Rasayana herb and used to treat many diseases such as general debility, fever, diabetes, dyspepsia, urinary infections, jaundice and skin diseases.
Katuka
Katuka (Synonyms: Picrorhiza kurroa, Tikta, Tiktarohi, Kutki, Katuka rohini, Katuku rohini, Kadugurohini) is a perennial, hairy herb found in north-western Himalayas from Kashmir to Sikkim. The main constituent of the rhizomes is Glucoside (Picrorhizin). The rhizomes of the plant are dried and used for medicinal purpose.
It has alterative, bitter, Tonic, antibacterial, antiviral, anthelmintic, hepatoprotective, choleretic, spasmolytic, insecticidal and laxative activities.
Traditionally, Picrorhiza is used for constipation, chronic dysentery, scabies, leucoderma, joint pain, chronic asthma, infections, inflammations, coughs, hepatitis, menstrual problems, enteritis, gall bladder complaints, jaundice and hemorrhoids. It works on plasma, blood and muscle tissues.
Kutki pacifies Vata and Pitta and reduces Ama in the body. It helps in the liver conditions and is considered the main herb for jaundice, hepatitis, etc. It purges excess Pitta from the liver and gall bladder. It protects the liver.
Kakamachi
Kakamachi, Makoi or Black Nightshade consists of the dried whole plant of Solanum nigrum Linn. (Fam. Solanaceae); an herbaceous annual weed, 30-45 cm high, found throughout the country in dry parts, quite common in cultivated lands, roadsides and gardens.

Kakamachi (Black Nightshade) contains phytochemicals such as glycoalkaloids, glycoproteins, polysaccharides, polyphenolic compounds such as gallic acid, catechin, protocatechuic acid (PCA), caffeic acid, epicatechin, rutin, and naringenin are present in Solanum nigrum and it has been extensively used traditionally to treat various ailments such as pain, inflammation, skin diseases, urinary diseases, diabetes, anorexia, fever, hiccups and vomiting.
In larger dose, Black Nightshade may cause pain in abdomen, diarrhea, vomiting. It can cause sedation, depression of central nervous system and depression in reflexes of spinal cord.
Black Nightshade overdose, can cause intestinal disease, abdominal disease, headache, irritability, nausea and vomiting.
Black Nightshade should not be given to children and better to be avoided in pregnancy.
