Ayurveda: DRAKSHASAVA Syrup

Drakshasava is a polyherbal Ayurvedic medicine used to treat digestive diseases. The chief ingredient of this medicine is ‘Draksha’ which is a cooling, sweet and nutritious. This medicine works on gastro-intestinal tract, stimulate appetite, improve body strength and energy. This is an OTC medicine and can be safely taken daily without consultation of doctor.

Ingredients of Drakshasava

Drakshasava is a fermented liquid preparation made with the ingredients in the Formulation composition given below. It contains not more than 10 percent, and not less than 5 percent of alcohol that is self-generated in the preparation over a period of time.

Method of preparation:

Take the raw materials of pharmacopoeial quality. Wash and crush the ingredient numbered 1 (Kvatha Dravya) of the formulation composition. Clean, dry and powder the ingredients numbered 6 to 14 (Prakshepa Dravya) of the formulation composition individually and pass through the sieve number 85 to obtain a fine powder. Add the specified amount of water to the Kvatha Dravya, soak overnight, heat, reduce to one fourth and filter through a muslin cloth to obtain Kvatha.Add the ingredient number 3 of the formulation composition to the Kvatha, allow to dissolve and filter through the muslin cloth. Transfer the filtrate to a clean container;add Madhu, Dhataki and other finely powdered Prakshepa Dravyas. Seal the mouth of the container.Shift the container to the fermentation room and constantly check for the signs of completion offermentation process.Filter the fermented material through a clean muslin cloth. Pack in airtight containers and allow for maturation.

Description: Clear brown liquid without frothing and significant sedimentation;with aromatic odour and sweet taste.

Storage: Store in a cool place in a tightly closed amber colored bottle, protect from light and moisture.

Drakshasava has the following properties

Amapachak/metabolizes the accumulated toxins

It is a Tridoshanashak.

Therapeutic uses of Drakshasava

This medicine is for treating gastric disorders and cough. It is a Tonic, nutritive and cures debility. It is indicated in many diseases.

Arsha (piles), Pandu (anemia, Jvara (fever)

Udararoga (diseases of abdomen), Aruci (tastelessness), anorexia, Indigestion

Hridroga (heart disease)

Rakta-pitta (bleeding disorder)

Cough, respiratory ailments, whooping cough

Cachexia (wasting syndrome is loss of weight, muscle atrophy, fatigue, weakness, and significant loss of appetite)

The Dosage of Drakshasava

Take 15 -30 ml of medicine orally with an equal amount of water. This medicine should be taken after having meals twice a day.
