Ingredients of Talisadi Churna

Talisay Churna is a creamish white fine powder with a pleasant odor and a sweet, spicy and pungent taste. It is made with the ingredients in the formulation composition given below.

Method of Preparation

  • Take all the ingredients of pharmacopoeial quality.
  • Powder separately ingredients numbered 1 to 8 and pass through sieve number 85.

Vamsalochana/ Vanshlochan/ Bamboo Manna is an Ayurvedic name of medicinal tree Bambusa arundinacea.

The siliceous concretion found in the joints of the female bamboo is called Vamsalochana/ Bansa rochana in Sanskrit. It occurs as a bluish-white translucent mass. It has sweet, cooling, Tonic, expectorant, hemostatic, aphrodisiac, diuretic and anti-cough properties.

It is useful in cough, consumption, asthma, bronchitis, fever, etc. It is added in the composition of numerous compound prescriptions used for affections of the lungs.

Talispaturu or Talispatra refers to coniferous tree Abies webbiana. The tree is known as Himalayan Silver in English. It is found in the forests of inner Himalaya extending from Afghanistan to

Bhutan at 8000—13,000 feet altitude. The leaves yield a volatile oil and resin.

The leaves have carminative, expectorant and stomachic action and useful for phthisis, asthma, bronchitis, dyspepsia, and flatulence. The drug is used in pneumonia, septic conditions of the urinary tract and for hemorrhoids. It gets rapidly excreted through the skin, bronchial mucous membrane and kidneys stimulating them and acting as a diaphoretic and diuretic.

Maricha (Marich) is known as Gol Mirch, Kali Mirch or Black Pepper. It is dried unripe seeds of the plant, Piper nigrum a perennial shrub. It is pungent (Katu) in taste, hot in potency and pungent after digestion (Katu Vipak). It mainly works on the digestive, circulatory and respiratory system. It is expectorant, carminative, antipyretic, anthelmintic and antiperiodic.

Black Pepper is useful in difficult breathing, chronic indigestion, obesity, sinus congestion, fever, intermittent fever, cold extremities, colic, cooking spice, cholera, gastric ailments, gas, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, worms, sore throat, and cough.

Piper nigrum is added to medicines for drug potentiation. It improves the bioavailability of phytochemicals.

Pippali is known as Pippali, Pipal, Long Pepper and Dried Catkins. It is fruits of a plant Piper longum. It is pungent (Katu) in taste, hot in potency and sweet (Madhur Vipak) after digestion. The main organs on which it works are digestive, reproductive and respiratory. It has analgesic, anthelmintic, aphrodisiac, carminative and expectorant properties and is used in the treatment of digestive and respiratory ailments such as gas, bloating, distension, digestive weakness, excess phlegm, asthma, bronchitis, colds, coughs, and laryngitis.
