About the ingredients
What is Kajjali: The combination of detoxified Mercury (Parada) and Sulphur ( Gandhaka) is known as Kajjali and extensively used in Ayurvedic therapeutics for a wide variety of ailments and conditions. Kajjali was firstly used and was given by Nagarjuna in 8th century.
For making Kajjali, Sulphur can be added to mercury either in equal quantity or half quantity.
Preparing Kajjali: It is made by following the classical method of Shodhanavidhi and Kajjali-karana. Parada and Gandhak separately undergo Shodhan (purified, detoxified and potentized). Mercury and Sulphur thus processed are taken and triturated till the shiny globules of Parada are no longer visible called as Kajjali.
Chemically, it is Black Sulphide of Mercury.
Kajjali is a prime ingredient of the majority of Ras Aushadhies. It is Rasayana drug (rejuvenative). It cures many diseases by pacifying the tridoshas. Kajjali combined with other appropriate ingredients cures all types of diseases. It is also used as Vrushya (an aphrodisiac), Sahapana (taking together with medicine), and Anupana (a vehicle taken after medicine).
The Ras-Aushadhi are easy to take, has rapid action, desired results, and long lasting effects.
Nutmeg: Nutmeg is traditionally used in the treatment of diarrhea know as or Jaiphal/Jaifal. It has anti-enterotoxic activity which means it is effective against organisms producing a toxin specific for cells of the intestinal mucosa. It is carminative and gives relief in pain, abdominal swelling, indigestion and diarrhea.
Mace or Javitri is used in Ayurveda for treating chronic intestinal disorders, fever, cholera and intestinal worms. It is aromatic, anthelmintic, appetizer, anti-emetic and carminative.
Clove is a cooling, and stimulant and kidney and the liver. It has antimicrobial, anti-emetic and antiseptic property. It is useful in indigestion, nausea, vomiting, flatulence and diarrhea.
Neem leaves are extensively used in Ayurveda for the treatment of wide variety of diseases. It is also used to treat diarrhea, dysentery due to its anti-microbial properties. It is a general antiseptic and removes blood toxins. It has cooling and has soothing effect.
Method of Preparation
After making Kajjali of Parada and Gandhaka a Parpati is made, and the Churna of item No. 3 to 6 are to be mixed with the Parpati. The whole material is made into a Bolus. This Bolus should be placed in MuktaShukti and another piece of MuktaShuki is to be placed over it. This samputa should be sealed with the Kapadamitti (clay smeared cloth). It is to be dried and heated through the process of Putapaka Vidhi. When Putapaka is cool, the Bolus is removed and well powdered. Discs are then prepared with this powder with water. Each disc should be about 375mg in weight after they are dried in shade. Thereafter, it should be bottled and used.
